Nicole & Tom of Truckee, CA
Married September 16, 2006 • Telluride, Colorado
Although the tent blew over the night before our wedding and we awoke to snow on our wedding day, by mid-afternoon the sun was shining and the skies were a brilliant blue. Snowcapped mountain peaks and spectacular fall colors created the perfect backdrop for our mountain-top wedding.
How did you meet
We met in Telluride so we wanted to marry in Telluride and Tom knew of the perfect spot.
How long to plan the wedding: One year.
Budget: $45,000
Number of Guests: 58
Number from out-of-town: 52
Wedding Location: Private site in Telluride.
Difficulties in planning a Destination Wedding
Fortunately, we hired a wedding planner and didn’t have to deal with much.
The Theme
Blues & Brews & I do’s.
The Food
We had a family style dinner with buttermilk fried chicken, apple molasses pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, veggies and salad.
The Cake
Instead of the traditional wedding cake, we had a tower of chocolate frosted cupcakes. It was awesome.
The Favors
Hats, visors and beer cozies.
Special Touches
We wrote our own vows and had a close friend marry us.
Our dog, conka, was our ring bearer. With the rings tied around her neck, she ran right to us when the rings were called upon.
After the ceremony we commuted across the lake on a canoe. It gave us a special moment to ourselves.
Our wedding was on Saturday so on Sunday we invited everyone to join us in Town Park; we hung out all day and listened to the blues festival music.
We put together a slide show of photos from our childhood.
My dad created our wedding logo.
Our Advice
1. Do not feel overwhelmed. Planning a wedding is a really fun time in your life yet it goes by so quickly so embrace each and very moment.
2. The day of the wedding absorb everything that you can.
3. Take a moment to see all the details.
4. Don’t stress – it’s not worth it. You don’t want to be remembered as the ugly bridezilla.
Honeymoon Location
We snuck off to Crested Butte for a few days but have not taken a full honeymoon yet.
