Rosemary & Lucas
Married August 4, 2007
Telluride, Colorado
We chose to have our ceremony in Telluride because it is a very special place for us. We visited the town on a family vacation in December of 2005. We both felt our relationship solidified during that trip and we knew we were ready to spend our lives together. One month later, we were engaged!
The Details
Budget: $22,000
How long to plan the wedding: 8 months
Number of Guests: 25
Number from out-of-town: Everyone, including us!
Wedding Site: Gorrono Ranch, Telluride, Colorado. We searched online for venues in Telluride, and fell in love with Gorrono Ranch. It was an ideal setting for our summer ceremony because it offered complete solitude and serenity, but it is also a place we can ski into for lunch during the winter and remember our special day.
Biggest planning challenge
Our crazy schedules only allowed us one visit to Telluride 8 months before the ceremony, so it was a challenge to remember what we had seen in order to make decisions down the road. But all of our vendors were extremely cooperative and experienced with handling preparations for destination weddings.
The Theme/Décor
Our theme is best described as “Asian Fusion” – a truly East meets West wedding. Our goal was to blend elements of a traditional Indian wedding (which is my ethnic background) with a traditional American wedding – although nothing was traditional about it! We love color and infused the wedding with reds, oranges, yellows, pinks and greens wherever possible. There was literally no white at all, including my wedding dress.
Daises and rosemary were another big theme, representing Lucas and I. Not only were they our wedding flowers, but they were also on the front of our invitations and in our favors for the guests.
The Flowers
Our flower choice is a bit of an inside joke – Lucas is a farmer, so plants and flowers are near and dear to his heart. We used copious amounts of rosemary (which of course, is me) and daisies (for Lucas) in the wedding. The scientific name for a daisy is “Leucanthemum,” which is the closest thing we could find to “Lucas” in the plant world. Daisies are bright and colorful, so we were happy to choose them as our wedding flower.
The Food
Tasty dishes prepared by the head chef at Gorrono. He was wonderful about creating delicious vegetarian appetizers and entrees for Lucas and I, while also catering to our non-vegetarian guests.
The Favors
We made these ourselves, because we wanted to truly personalize the day. We put together a small bag of loose soil containing rosemary & daisy seeds, and included a small flowerpot for our guests to grow a reminder of our day. Everything was placed in a gold pouch with an instruction tag attached. We also included a vial of bubbles and a wooden fan (to help with what we assumed would be a warm outdoor ceremony!).
Best thing about the Day
Everything went perfectly. It rained all morning, and we were very concerned that the wedding would have to be moved inside. Luckily, things cleared up in the nick of time and we had our ceremony on the slightly soggy deck as planned. We had both prepared ourselves for the mishaps that were sure to come, and were shocked at how smoothly it all went.
Our Advice
Start early, and do everything you can to make the wedding your own.
