Dalene & Nick Pope
Married July 5, 2008 Durango, Colorado

THE DETAILS
How long to plan the wedding: 11 months
Budget: $25,000
Number of Guests: 200

Wedding Location: Dante’s at Durango Mountain Resort. We love the Mountains and love to ski, it has been a huge part of our relationship and the view from Dante’s is absolutely breath-taking. It is such a peaceful and amazing spot to say your vows.

Difficulties in planning: Our parents not being able to see the location until the beginning of June unless they wanted to ski to it!

Biggest planning challenge: Not living in Durango at the time of planning and having to make a lot of trips to get everything taken care of.

Wedding Theme: Mountain romance.

The Décor: Candles, hydrangeas and romantic quotes.

The Flowers: Hydrangeas, green and purple roses and calla lilies.

The Menu: Herbed chicken and rib-eye steaks with vegetables and wild rice.

The Favors: Candles and seeds of wildflowers.

The Cake: A three tier white cake with lemon and raspberry fillings and a chocolate grooms cake with strawberries.

SPECIAL TOUCHES
1.  We hand made our wedding announcements and our wedding day program!

2.   We had a family friend’s band play bluegrass and gospel music before, during and after the ceremony. This added to our wedding ceremony in a beautiful way.

3.  A good friend of ours sang “Feels Like Home To Me” right after my parents gave me away and “When You Say Nothing At All” during our sand ceremony. It was so beautiful and serene.

4.  We had everyone light and hold sparklers as we were leaving our reception! It was a great way to incorporate fire works into the Independence Day Weekend!

Best Thing about the day: Having all of our family and friends there in one of the most beautiful places ever to witness our love and the beginning of our life together!

Memorable Moment: It was beautiful with rain clouds all day and sprinkled before the ceremony and the thunder rolled during our ceremony but it began to rain as our Pastor announced us Husband and Wife and told Nick he could kiss his bride.  We hear it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day!

What went wrong: I had red wine spilled on my dress while hugging my mom!

Rehearsal Dinner Location: Hoody’s Base Camp at Durango Mountain Resort

What would you do different: Nothing at all, it was a perfect day! I wish I would have hired a videographer though to capture it all live because it went by so fast it is kind of a blur.

Our Advice: Remember that it will all turn out great in the end and it is worth the time and effort it takes to plan!

Honeymoon Location: Playa del Carmen, Mexico
