THE PLANNING
How long to plan: We were engaged a year and a half and it took the whole time to plan!!!
Budget: Our estimated budget was supposed to be $20,000 but we ended up spending about $30,000.
Number of Guests: 250
Wedding Location: Double Tree Hotel
Difficulties in planning: Because we had so long to plan, we really didn’t run into any difficulties.
Biggest planning challenge: I think our biggest challenge planning was trying to picture everything put together.
THE DETAILS
Wedding Theme: I wanted the theme to be romantic. We used red and black as our main colors and a lot of "double hearts" around the room. After all, it was two hearts becoming one.
The Décor: Down the aisle we had topiary balls lining the aisle and the white gazebo was decorated in the same flowers. The centerpieces were 28" tall vases that had roses and bear grass in them. They also had clear beads with a waterproof battery operated light hidden in the beads. It made the whole vase with water light up so beautifully. They were placed on square mirrors. Two votive candles were placed on the mirrors as well. Rose pedals were scattered on the tables. The chair covers added romance to the room and the balloon arch added a party theme. We wanted our guests to have a good time!
The Flowers: They were absolutely beautiful I can’t even begin to describe how much the flowers added so much bliss to the day. There were roses, Gerber daisies, lilies, and a ton of other flowers all mixed in. All of the flowers really added color to the theme to make it look more “summery”.
The Menu: Italian Buffet. We had tortellini, calzones, and lasagna.
The Favors: My mom special ordered Brut and Spumanti Champagne Bottles. We wrapped them with cellophane and tied them at the top with black and red ribbon. The label on the bottle had our names and wedding date. We also had little bells with a note that said “As we gather here today to share our wedded bliss, Ring this bell for us to kiss.”
The Cake: It had 4 tiers. (Top tier was chocolate, 2nd tier was a spice cake, 3rd tier was white chocolate raspberry, and the 4th tier was a chocolate vanilla marble) Made with white fondant frosting and red details. We had a “double heart” cake topper with flowers. It was placed on a gorgeous silver stand.
SPECIAL TOUCHES
1. I made our programs for the ceremony. They were fans with all of the ceremony information on both sides. I thought it would be cute since it was outside in June. I also put lights in our vases that we used for the centerpieces to add mood lighting.
2. We made our own invitations. Our picture was behind the print of the invitation and they were tied together with a bow.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
1. Walking down the aisle seeing the look on Matthew’s face and his smile getting bigger the closer I got to him.
2. Sean Penn was at our wedding!!!! He was coming through with Brad Pitt to film a movie and they stayed the night in the Double Tree Hotel. I didn't get to see Brad Pitt but I got my picture taken with Sean Penn and he danced with us for a few minutes!
What went wrong
The florist forgot one of the bouquets. But no one even noticed because we used the tossing bouquet in the ceremony.
What would you do different
Nothing it was as perfect as I imagined it. I think it turned out so well because we had so much time to plan so it was very laid back and no one was stressed, except my mom of course.
MY ADVICE
Don’t rush things. Enjoy the planning and make it fun! My maid of honor and I had so much fun painting the sticks that we used for our program fans!
Honeymoon Location
Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. We stayed at an all inclusive resort called Velas Vallarta.
