Julia & Jeremy Hefner
Married June 17, 2006
Vallecito Lake, Colorado

The Ceremony:  Berri Park on Middle Mountain.

The Reception:  Our home in Vallecito Lake.

How long to plan wedding:  Seven months.

The Planning
I attended the Durango Wedding Expo for ideas and resources as well as did research on the internet.   The last two weeks were the most stressful trying to confirm the RSVP’s and handle all the last minute details and decor.

Number of Guests:  120.  Approximately 70 came in from out-of-town.

The Décor
Sage green was the primary color.  We strung lots of white lights in the trees surrounding our backyard.

The Flowers
White and Stargazer Lillies.

The Food
Norton’s Catering provided a delicious buffet of Prime Rib and Salmon along with asparagus and green chili artichoke dip.

The Favors
White Jordan almonds in small mesh satchels, and bubbles.

Special Touches
1. My grandmother broke her hip the week before the wedding and was unable to attend so we sang ‘You are my Sunshine’ in her honor (a song she always sang to me as a child).

2. My 86 year-old Great Aunt sang us a song during the reception.

3. The groomsmen wore wigs throughout the reception.  It gave everyone a good laugh.

4. We drove away in my Dad’s 1957 Bel-air.

5. Our parents hosted another BBQ on Sunday, the day after the wedding, for all the out-of-town guests.

What went wrong?
The cake fell to one side on the drive from the bakery to our house.  Fortunately, my Mother-in-law came to the rescue with a spatula and some nails to prop it back up.

What would you do different if you had to do it again?
I would elope to avoid the stress.

The Rehearsal Dinner
We had a Texas theme BBQ in our parents’ barn.

My Advice
1.  Delegate tasks.
2.  Do not try to do everything yourself.
3.  When people offer to help – accept it.
4.  Don’t stress about things you cannot control, like the weather.

Honeymoon:  Yellowstone National Park.
