2009 Colorado WEDDINGS Magazine - Cover Couple

Cara & Kelly of Denver, CO
Married August 2, 2008 - Ouray, Colorado

We were snowshoeing on Red Mountain Pass New Year’s eve when Kelly proposed.  Ouray is such a special location to us that we knew it was the perfect town to hold our wedding and share with our guests.  Our guests took full advantage of Ouray; many arrived early to take in the scenery and the hot springs.  Overall, our wedding day was magical!

THE DETAILS
How long to plan wedding:  Six (6) months.
Budget:  $25,000
Number of Guests:  120
Ceremony Location:  Secret Garden Bed & Breakfast
Reception Location:  Private Ranch

The Flowers/Decor:  Wildflowers for the bouquets and potted herbs for centerpieces.  Ashley of Field Florals put together a beautiful mixture of green, hot pink, yellow and orange flowers all handpicked from her farm in Paonia.

The Food:  Mediterranean.
The Favors:  Wildflower seeds.
The Cake:  Two layers: carrot and chocolate/nutella.

SPECIAL TOUCHES
We made our own personalized invitations.

I made a customized jewelry piece for each of my bridesmaids.

We gave each of our attendants a hand-blown glass tumbler from the Ouray Glassworks as a thank you.

Our dog, Ella, walked down the aisle as a member of the wedding party.

My Dad married us.

All of the groomsmen wore ties with bike gears silk screened onto silk.

My mom put together Ouray gift bags for each guest.

We had a candy table set-up with our favorite treats:  jelly bellies, skittles and good n’plenty.

As a late night snack and to keep the party going, we had 15 pizzas delivered at 10:30pm.

We wanted everyone to have a really good time, so we had Bocce balls and horseshoes out to play with at the reception.  There were many children and dogs running around as well, which made the event more fun.  Several of the little boys built a teepee out of logs, and then played in there all night.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS
Champagne toast post-ceremony at the Secret Garden B&B.  Father of the Groom did a very touching toast.

Taking photos with Kyla after the ceremony.

OUR ADVICE
Let the small stuff go.  Don’t fret about the details, no one notices anyway.
Try to enjoy every moment, because it goes by sooo quickly!
Stay true to what means the most to you….it’s worth it in the end.

Honeymoon Location:  Croatia
