Josephine & Charles Scoville
Married July 19, 2008 - Rigway, Colorado

We wanted our family from the Midwest to really experience the beauty of the outdoors in a mountainous area in the summer with the wildflowers in bloom … since most of our guests traveled a long way to get here, we made a whole weekend of it with the Rehearsal Dinner a day earlier than traditional (Thursday) so that we could have a BBQ on Friday for all of the people already in town.  It was a great way for family and friends from both sides to really get to meet each other and have time to enjoy the area. The whole weekend was amazing –  I wish I could do it all again!

THE DETAILS
How long to plan the wedding: 7 ½ months
Budget: $10,000 but turned into $17,500
Number of Guests: 188

Ceremony Location: Private Ranch - Ridgway, Colorado
Reception Location:  Ouray County 4-H Event Center - Ridgway, Colorado

Difficulties in planning: The logistics of the ceremony were difficult because you needed a high clearance vehicle to get all the way in and then had to walk a ways to the actual site.  Charlie and I even had to build a bridge over the irrigation ditch for the guests to use to reach the site.

Biggest planning challenge:
We had to make sure all of our family & friends from Missouri and Minnesota were able to find lodging and know how to navigate around the area.

Wedding Theme:  Pink and orange … lots of wildflower colors and summery dresses.

The Wedding Attire:
6 bridesmaids – 3 in fuchsia and 3 in tangelo (bright orange) summer dresses.  6 groomsmen in full tuxes with fuchsia ties and tangelo vests.

The Décor:
Fuchsia table toppers with glass bowl centerpieces filled with fuchsia, orange, and yellow Gerber daisies, some tulle with clear Christmas lights.

The Flowers:
Pink and orange bouquets with bits of purple, yellow, and green… assorted flowers, no roses.

The Menu:
BBQ chicken, beef, and pork, with all the side dishes.

The Favors
:  Handmade sachets of wildflower seeds with thank you messages written on them. The wildflower seed mixes were customized for the area the person was from (Western Mountain or Midwest).

The Cake
:  3 square tiers that were each turned 30 degrees and decorated with white frosting & fresh flowers.

Special Touches:
We chose our colors because my favorite color is pink and Charlie’s favorite color is orange.  When we were trying to choose a bridesmaid dress color, we just liked how bright and summery the colors were together and started intertwining the Pink & Orange color theme through everything.

Best Thing about the day:  Seeing the bluebird Colorado sky when I woke up that Saturday morning after days of rain … and knowing that my day was going to be perfect!! The moment I saw Charlie when I arrived at the wedding site is also a moment I will NEVER forget!

Memorable Moments:
1. Our flower girl was 2 ½ and was SO proud of herself for throwing the flowers – she was
proclaiming it to the world that “[she] did it! [she] threw the flowers mommy!!!”

2. Walking across that bridge and up the aisle with my Father… and watching the man I love watch me walk up.  Unforgettable!

3. My mom’s tears while the girls were getting ready… watching her firstborn get married made her emotional all day!

4. My dad played guitar and sang “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan for our wedding toast. A definite tear jerker!

What went wrong:

1. The girls were late getting ready so pictures were an hour late and hurried – plan for more time than you would ever think you’ll need – things take longer than they do!!

2. The food was ready an hour late (7:30 instead of 6:30) but everyone had so much fun socializing they didn’t even notice!

3. The PowerPoint Presentation I had spent hours making and setting to music wouldn’t work (though it had played perfectly the day before)…luckily my AMAZING brother-in-law (and the Best Man) saved the day and figured out what was wrong… so an hour late and a few tears later, the show played perfectly. J

What would you do different:  I would start the day earlier so things weren’t so rushed… I would try to spend more time meandering through the tables and talking to people before dinner – there were just so many people to talk to, it felt a bit impossible!

Our Advice:  ENJOY it!  Don’t stress… you only get to do it once, and what happens, happens.

Honeymoon Location: Sandals – Montego Bay, Jamaica – AMAZING!!  The all-inclusive relaxing lifestyle was exactly what we needed!

RECOMMENDED WEDDING PROS
Thumbs Up

Photographer:  McCarson Leigh Jones, Red Scarf Shots.  Carson was amazing!!  She spent all day getting the candid photos that make the wedding day so memorable.

Tent & Party RentalsComplete Party Resource did all of the sound system stuff for the ceremony. They also did all of the catering – the food was delicious – people raved about it.

Florist:  Willowcreek Floral – Judi is AMAZING – I cannot say enough good things about her!!!!  Flowers are not my specialty – I just told her the colors I wanted, that I didn’t want roses, and my budget, and she did everything from there.  My flowers ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire wedding!!
