January - Marry when the year is new, he'll be loving, kind and true.
February - When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate.

April - Marry in April if you can, joy for maiden and for man.
May - Marry in the month of May, you will surely rue the day.
June - Marry when June roses grow and over land and sea you'll go.
July - Those in July who do wed must labor for their daily bread.
August - Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see.
September - Marry in September's shine so that your life is rich and fine.
October - If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.
November - If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember!
December - When December's snows fall fast, marry and your love will last.

 

The WEDDING MONTH

A January bride will be a prudent housekeeper, and very good tempered.
A February bride will be an affectionate wife, and a tender mother.
A March bride will be a frivolous chatterbox, somewhat given to quarreling.
An April bride will be inconstant, or forceful, but well-meaning.
A May bride will be handsome, agreeable, and practical.
A June bride will be impetuous and generous.
A July bride will be handsome, but a trifle quick-tempered.
An August bride will be agreeable and practical as well.
A September bride will be discreet, affable, and much liked.
An October bride will be pretty, coquettish, loving but jealous.
A November bride will be liberal and kind, but sometimes cold.
A December bride will be fond of novelty, entertaining but extravagant.

The WEDDING DAY

Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday best of all,
Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses, Saturday for no luck at all.


The WEDDING GOWN

Married in White, you have chosen right;
Married in Grey, you will go far away;
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back;
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead;
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen;
Married in Blue, you will always be true;
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whir;
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow;

Married in Pink, you spirit will sink.

 

Old shoes tied to the honeymoon car were once considered symbols of authority and possession. The bride’s father would contribute one of the bride’s old shoes to the groom, thus symbolizing the transference of authority over to her husband.
